What is FSC?
The FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) is an international, not for profit labelling
scheme for sustainable wood and paper. Put simply, you can purchase
FSC-labelled wood products with a clear conscience, because in FSC forests,
no more trees are felled than the forest can reproduce on its own.
The FSC label also guarantees that animals and plants are protected and that
people working in the forests receive training, safety equipment and decent
wages.
FSC is also the only global labelling scheme that is broadly supported by nature
conservation organisations like WWF, Greenpeace and Nepenthes, by social
organisations like the United Federation of Danish Workers (3F) and the Danish
Cartel of Unions in the Building, Construction and Wood Sectors (BAT-kartellet)
and by companies around the world.
The FSC rules for sustainable forestry apply not only to tropical forests, but to
all types of forests throughout the world.
In order to resell or manufacture an FSC-certified product, a company must be
Chain of Custody-certified (CoC) to ensure that the product can be tracked from
forest to end user.
