CARB - FAQs:
If CARB is a Californian production standard why does a Danish company like
Tvilum-Scanbirk comply with it?
CARB is considered to be the most stringent formaldehyde emissions regulation
in the world. As our focus has been the reduction of hazardous substances in
furniture, we are already able to comply with this standard.
Is formaldehyde carcinogenic?
Yes, surveys suggest that large quantities of formaldehyde can cause cancer.
This is why there are rules regulating the amount of formaldehyde chipboard may
emit. Under Danish law, chipboard may emit a maximum of 0.124 milligrams of
formaldehyde per cubic metre air when tested in a climate chamber.
Tvilum-Scanbirk has chosen to reduce this amount by 50 per cent and our chip-
board therefore only contains 0.06 milligrams.
